Before you start organizing your league, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with the following terms. Understanding these concepts will help you manage the league efficiently and ensure a smooth experience for all participants.

Key terms and definitions about leagues

Team
A team is a group of players who play together against other teams. In padel, a team typically consists of two players.

Group
A group is made up of multiple teams within the same league that have a similar skill level. A league can include several groups or divisions, with each group’s size being configurable by the club.

Round ("Season")
A round represents the total number of games a team within a group must play before moving up, moving down, or remaining in the same division. For instance, similar to the Premier League format, teams can play against each other twice in a season, though clubs can customize this.

Showdown
A showdown is a specific matchup between two teams within the same division during a round. For example, team A and team B might have one showdown, though they may face off more than once in the same round.

Meetings
Meetings refer to how many times every team in a group will play against every other team in the same round. This is predefined in the system and cannot be changed.

Match Day/Match Week
This is a designated period during which each team in a division must play against another team.

Matches
A match is a game played between two teams within the same group during a round.

Booking
Booking involves reserving a specific court for a match. Typically, courts can be booked for 60, 90, or 120 minutes on a particular date and time.

Position
Position refers to a team’s standing within the league.

Number of Teams Up
This indicates how many top teams in a group will advance to the next higher group at the end of a round, based on the point system configured by the club.

Number of Teams Down
This refers to how many bottom teams in a group will be relegated to the next lower group within the same category at the end of a round.
