How a pre authorization works

A temporary hold (or pre-authorization) is not a charge. It’s a standard banking process where a small amount is temporarily “frozen” on the player’s payment method (card, Apple Pay, or Quick Pay) to ensure the payment method is valid and has sufficient funds. This hold guarantees the booking. 

How It Works

• Pre-Authorization Timing: After the match, the system waits two hours to confirm all players have individually paid.
• Final Payment Collection: If all payments are confirmed, the system processes the individual charges (including the Playtomic service fee) and releases any remaining funds back to the original payment method.

Tooltip: The new payment model will show these as “pre-authorized” in both the reservation and payment list.

• Unpaid Player Shares: If a player hasn’t paid their part two hours after the match ends, the system will automatically use the pre-authorized hold amount from their payment method to cover any unpaid charges.
• Viewing Pre-Authorization: The pre-authorization may appear in the player’s bank account as a pending charge, depending on their bank’s display process.
• Bookings with Club (Merchant) Wallet: When a player books using a Club Wallet, a hold is placed on the necessary funds in the Wallet. Two hours after the match ends, the system verifies all player payments:
  • Once all payments are confirmed, the system deducts the player’s share from their Wallet.
  • Any remaining balance from the hold is refunded to the Wallet automatically.
• Cancellations and Refunds: If a player cancels their booking in line with the club’s cancellation policy, they receive an immediate refund to their original payment method, including the Playtomic service fee.
• Additional Charges or Fees: The pre-authorization is only a temporary hold to secure the booking. No additional fees are charged to the player as part of this process.
