⚠️ This article only applies to clubs located in Switzerland. |
Since we moved to local payment processing in Switzerland, your Playtomic invoices now include 8.1% Swiss VAT. This applies to both your service fee invoices for online payments and your Playtomic Manager subscription invoices. In this article, we explain what has changed, why VAT now appears on your invoices, and how it affects your VAT return, so you know exactly what to expect.
What has changed
Your invoices are now issued by GotCourts, the Swiss company of the Playtomic group. They include GotCourts’ Swiss VAT (UID) number, so they meet Swiss requirements for VAT deduction and are ready to use in your Swiss VAT return.
Because the service is now provided by a Swiss VAT-registered company to your club in Switzerland, it is subject to Swiss VAT at the standard rate of 8.1%, which is added to your fees.
Before the migration, invoices were issued by our Spanish entity without Swiss VAT. Invoices already issued by our Spanish entity keep their original treatment. Where applicable, your club accounted for Swiss VAT itself through the reverse charge mechanism. For invoices from GotCourts, this mechanism no longer applies, because the VAT is already charged on the invoice.
Good to know: your rates and conditions haven’t changed. The only difference is that Swiss VAT is now charged on the invoice.
What to look for on your invoice
You receive two types of invoices from GotCourts: one for your Playtomic Manager subscription and one for the service fees on online payments. Both include the information you need for your VAT return.
Note: The invoices below are illustrative examples. Your own invoices may look slightly different, but they always include the information described here.
Subscription invoice (Playtomic Manager)
- Invoice number: keep it for your records and your VAT return.
- Issuer: GotCourts AG, the Swiss company of the Playtomic group, with its Swiss address and Swiss VAT number.
- Your plan: same rate and conditions as before.
- Swiss VAT at 8.1%: added on top of your plan price. The amount due includes VAT.
Service fee invoice (online payments)
- Invoice number: keep it for your records and your VAT return.
- Issuer: GotCourts AG, with its Swiss address and Swiss VAT number.
- Swiss VAT at 8.1%: shown for each line. If any service fees were refunded during the month, they appear as a separate line with a negative amount, including the refunded VAT.
If your club is VAT-registered
Good news: for VAT-registered clubs, the net cost is zero. You can recover the full 8.1% as input tax in your regular Swiss VAT return, as long as the cost relates to your VAT-taxable revenue (for example, bookings, classes or tournaments).
How the 8.1% VAT amount is treated depends on your VAT accounting method:
- Effective method: you can generally deduct the 8.1% as input tax, to the extent the service is used for your taxable activities. If your club also has VAT-exempt revenue, the deduction may need to be reduced proportionally. Your accountant can confirm this.
- Net tax rate method: input tax is already accounted for in your net tax rate, so it isn’t deducted separately.
If your club isn’t VAT-registered
In this case, the VAT can’t be recovered, so the 8.1% is an additional cost. Your accountant or tax advisor can help you decide whether voluntary VAT registration makes sense for your club.
Where to find your invoices
- Subscription invoices: you can download them directly from Playtomic Manager. Check out How to Download Your Subscription Invoice for step-by-step instructions.
- Service fee invoices for online payments: these are created and sent to you by email once a month.
